     Sunny Anderson, born in Lawton, Oklahoma, grew up in an Army family and lived in Korea and Germany  where she indulged in many local cuisines.  After graduating from high school in Texas, Sunny joined the Air Force where she became an award-winning radio and television broadcaster.     

     She once compared herself to the movie Good Morning,  Vietnam.  After her tour of duty in 1997, Sunny became a radio DJ which would take her to New Orleans, Montgomery, Alabama, and then to Detroit and eventually moved to a New York hip-hop radio station.  She also started cooking for coworkers bringing dishes to potlucks and company functions.   She eventually honed her culinary skills with a catering business, Sunny’s Delicious Dishes.   

     Her first appearance on Food Network was in 2005 as a guest on “Emeril Live”. A coordinator for the  ”Emeril live” show heard her and invited Sunny to be a guest on the show.  She later launched her daytime show, “Cooking  For Real” and presently stars in the Food Network show, “Home Made in America,” which premiered in October of 2012, a show which features the stories behind the recipes perfected by home cooks. 

     Sunny once commented in an interview, “You know, you learn a lot of intangibles in the military, things like duty, honor, integrity and confidence,” she said.  “I’ve taken these with me throughout my life and they’ve helped me get where I am today.”  Her book, Sunny’s Kitchen:  Easy Food for Real Life will be released on September 17, 2013.
